Viking Day
On Monday 9th February, Year 5 spent the whole day with a Viking! Throughout the day, Year 5 were immersed with what life was truly like as a Viking. Here are some of the activities that they experienced:
-
Information about Longships, weapons and armour
-
Shield Wall activity
-
Examined artefacts
-
Drew Runes
-
Norse God and Monsters game
-
What did the Viking wear?
-
Viking food game
During the different sessions, Year 5 were also able to ask any questions that they had.
Christmas play
We have had an absolute ball rehearsing and performing our Christmas play this year. We all worked incredibly hard and are all very proud of the achievement. Thank you to all of our audiences for joining in with us with such enthusiasm.
The Big Stink!
During our science lessons, we were looking at mixtures and how to separate them. We looked at The Big Stink in London in 1858. We learnt about how sewage and waste was and is now separated and which parts could be removed and the processes. We made our own sewage (out of edible food) and had a go at different processes to separate the mixture.
Carbon Monoxide Sessions
We had a visitor come into school and educate us about Carbon Monoxide and the dangers of breathing it in. We were able to share our knowledge and add to it regarding how to stay safe. We designed posters, learnt how to regularly check our alarms at home, presented our information as groups and made plans of our houses and looked at solutions for possible problems.
Year 5 and Year 1 book buddies!
Year 5 have been taking regular trips down to Emscote Infants to share books with the year 1 children. They have been able to choose books from the Year 1 classroom, take their favourite childhood books from home and complete some fun activities on the theme of the books issued by the teachers. We have loved going down to Emscote and have really enjoyed sharing books with others.
