Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA)

UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award – Bronze: Rights Committed

Working alongside our Junior school, we are proud to have achieved the UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award – Bronze: Rights Committed. This recognises our commitment to placing children's rights at the heart of everything we do and marks the beginning of our journey towards becoming a fully Rights Respecting School.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Through this work, we aim to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, respected and empowered to achieve their full potential.

What does this mean for our school?

Being a Rights Respecting School means that children's rights are woven into everyday school life. We help our pupils to understand that every child has rights, while also encouraging them to respect the rights of others. This creates a positive, inclusive environment where everyone can learn, thrive and feel they belong.

Across the school, children learn about their rights through the curriculum, assemblies and class discussions. Our classrooms display Rights Respecting Class Charters, which help to promote kindness, respect and responsibility.

Pupil voice is an important part of our Rights Respecting work. Children are encouraged to share their views, through our child Self Evaluation for example and take on leadership roles and contribute to decisions that help shape our school community.

Looking Ahead

Achieving Bronze is an important milestone, but it is only the beginning of our journey. We continue to develop our Rights Respecting practice by embedding children's rights throughout school life and working towards the Silver: Rights Aware Award.

We value the support of our families and wider community as we continue to promote the rights of every child and help our pupils become confident, respectful and compassionate global citizens.
