Engineering Event Awards Day

Year 6 had a whole day of engineering in February funded by Baxi as part of Primary Engineering.

They learned new skills including using woodwork tools and wiring to power the light source.

The children had the opportunity to either build a truck or a tower that lit up. The second part of their task was to come up with a design to enhance their truck or tower.

On Tuesday 24th March, eight children (four teams of two) took their finished tower designs to Warwick University for an event that would see their designs put through a tilt test and a shock test. The children also had to sit with a judge and explain their design and theme and why they had chosen them.

We were very proud of all the children who attended.

To round off a great day, two of the four designs were awarded with a 1st place winning overall design and durability and a 1st place winning the best theme.

Science – Light

In year 6, our current science topic is light. The children have been establishing the best arrangement of a light source as well as the position of an object to create a shadow puppet theatre. They were all really creative with their ideas and very much enjoyed experimenting with different paper transparency to create the best effect.
