PSHE
At Emscote Infant School, PSHE is at the heart of our curriculum. Through PSHE, children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to become confident, healthy, respectful and responsible members of their communities.
Our PSHE curriculum supports children to understand themselves and others, build positive relationships, manage their emotions, make safe choices and develop the resilience they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
Our Approach
We teach PSHE through a range of carefully planned lessons, discussions, stories and activities that are appropriate for the age and stage of our children. Learning is supported through:
-
The Zones of Regulation
-
Protective Behaviours
-
High-quality picture books and stories
-
Class discussions and circle time
-
Real-life situations and experiences

Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum
Throughout the school, children are encouraged to develop self-awareness, empathy, confidence and respect for others.
Our curriculum is organised around six key areas:
Healthy Relationships
Children learn about friendships, families, kindness, respect and how to build positive relationships with others. They develop skills to resolve disagreements, recognise healthy relationships and know where to seek support when needed.
Social Awareness
Children learn about rules, responsibilities, communities and how their actions affect others. They explore how to work cooperatively, show respect and contribute positively to the world around them.
Healthy Lifestyles
Children develop an understanding of physical and mental wellbeing, including healthy eating, exercise, sleep, personal hygiene and making choices that support a healthy lifestyle.
Decision Making and Risk
Children learn how to recognise and manage risks, stay safe at home, in school, online and in the wider community. They learn about trusted adults, personal boundaries and how to ask for help when they need it.
Self and Emotional Wellbeing
Children learn to recognise, understand and manage their emotions. They develop resilience, self-confidence and strategies to cope with challenges, change and big feelings.
Economic Wellbeing and Aspirations
Children begin to understand money, jobs, communities and the different opportunities available to them in the future. They learn about responsibilities, caring for the environment and setting goals.
Early Years Foundation Stage
In EYFS, PSHE is taught primarily through Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED). Children learn to recognise and manage feelings, build positive relationships, develop independence and understand how to look after their own health and wellbeing. Learning is supported through stories, play, routines and daily interactions.
Protective Behaviours and Emotional Wellbeing
At Emscote Infant School, we place a strong emphasis on helping children feel safe, valued and supported. Through Protective Behaviours and the Zones of Regulation, children learn to identify their feelings, recognise when something does not feel right and know who they can talk to if they need help.
Preparing Children for Life
Our PSHE curriculum helps children develop the confidence, knowledge and personal skills they need to become caring friends, active citizens and lifelong learners. By working in partnership with families, we aim to ensure every child feels safe, respected and ready to succeed.
